Electronic discovery is the term once used as the evidence that has been gathered from an electronic source. It could either be in the form of electronic like a flash drive, hard drives or any types of media as long as it is in digital form.


The purpose of E-discovery is to find evidence that can be used against a court case from a computer that could likely be connected to the internet or not. It also eliminates the previous daunting task of scouring through tons of stuff only to have paper discovery from the rummage. Paper evidence can be destroyed easily by any means, but electronic information can be retrieved even when it is stored or even deleted many times There is an advantage, people who keep secrets and store it away have no chance of hiding anything as there are many softwares that can decipher hidden data.

Electronic discovery is not just limited to a single computer's hard drive but rather, information is pass over to a network where internet or an email account is use. It also eliminates paper discovery, a previous example of getting finding information through the tons of paper.

Electronic discovery is a field that continues to grow everyday and together with technology has change the way we look at handling sensitive data. However, there are also exterior threats that can hamper the success of electronic discovery, and that is through being sabotage by worms, trojans, mawlare and other form of viruses. Just make sure that you have installed a backup when you happen to be restoring, archiving, sensitive pieces of information. You will never knew, that hackers can quickly sabotage your files or tamper important pieces of information without you ever knowing it.
